Presented by Franklin Pond Chamber Music, the First Annual Memorial Day Weekend Awards Concert invites music lovers statewide to enjoy an afternoon of chamber music performed by award-winning middle and high school Georgia musicians alongside internationally esteemed professional musicians. Featuring NPR "From the Top" host Christopher O'Riley, the concert takes place on Sunday, May 27 at 4 p.m. in Spivey Hall at Clayton State University. The concert is the finale event of the Franklin Pond Chamber Music Competition, the first and only competition of its kind in the Southeast.
Franklin Pond Chamber Music was founded in 2001 by Atlanta Symphony Orchestra violinist Ronda Respess, who realized Atlanta’s need for a high-quality summer program for serious string students and started the Summer Program. By the summer of 2002, Franklin Pond had its 501 and has been thriving and growing over the years. In 2011, the Fall into Spring program (Sept.-May) was added, which more than doubled the student body and the faculty of all Atlanta Symphony Orchestra musicians. In 2014, the College Festival was added, attracting students from five colleges around the Atlanta area as well as those out of the area. Nationally known guest artists come to work with the students each year and speak highly of the program. Additional events are added yearly, such as the Labor Day String Festival and the MLK Day Teachers Workshop, as well as other special workshops.
At Windward Place Apartments in Alpharetta, Georgia, it is clear that we have it all, but we still feel obliged to inform you of all the events our community has scheduled. Please feel free to join in all of the fun at this event!
