Sandwiches: they are the greatest invention since sliced bread. They’re portable, popular, and inexpensive. Sandwiches allow for endless culinary possibilities, and they’re so much more than just meat, veggies, and condiments between two slices of bread. Sandwiches can be sweet or savory, served hot or cold, and have numerous interpretations throughout many cultures. Sandwiches are even simple to make, but, sometimes, it’s fun (and delicious) to leave the sandwich-making up to the experts. With that being said, here is where you can find the best sandwiches in Atlanta:
Fred’s Meat & Bread – 99 Krog Street Northeast, Atlanta, GA 30307
As locals know, Atlanta is King in the food hall scene, and one of everyone’s favorite stops is Krog Street Market. Open seven days a week, the market is known for its variety of cuisine – including Varuni Napoli’s pizza, Yalla’s kebabs, and XOCOLATL’s small-batch chocolate – but one spot in this popular food hall takes the cake for their sandwiches. Named after Fred Krog himself, Fred’s Meat & Bread is the brain-child of the folks behind Atlanta’s The General Muir. At Fred’s, you’ll find every delight in between two slices of bread, from the classic Cheesesteak to the more off-the-cuff Korean Fried Chicken. You can even get your “veg” on with Fred’s Veggie Burger or Cauliflower & Eggplant “Banh Mi.” Boy, do we love seeing a selection as vast and eclectic as the one at this ATL hotspot!
Buttermilk Kitchen – 4225 Roswell Road Northeast, Atlanta, GA 30342
Although they are currently only open for curbside pick-up, any breakfast or brunch dish from Buttermilk Kitchen in Atlanta is a good one – even if you’re enjoying it from the comfort of your living room sofa. Buttermilk Kitchen is known for its Chicken Biscuit, a fried chicken breast with housemade pepper jelly & pickles sandwiched between a buttermilk biscuit and served with pimento cheese grits. With the description alone, you can get a sense of why it is such a staple among locals. Other sandwich selections include the B.E.L.T with bacon, medium egg, spinach, pickled green tomatoes, red tomatoes, and lemon mayo on multigrain toast and a Lox Plate, which comes with a fresh-made bagel, Gravlox-style salmon, cured beets, onions, capers, tossed farm greens, and cream cheese. Yum!
W.H. Stiles Fish Camp – 675 Ponce de Leon Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30308
Looking for something completely different than your typical breakfast sandwich or traditional deli-style meal? W.H. Stiles Fish Camp should be right up your alley, then! Here, you’ll find a number of menu items aimed to satisfy your every seafood sandwich craving. Try the Crispy Cod Sandwich with remoulade and slaw, or enjoy a Crispy Shrimp or Clam Strip Poboys, both topped with lettuce tomato, and pickle. For fans of East Coast seafood, there’s even a Lobster Roll, served hot or cold on a delectable, flaky buttered roll. Best of all, you can pair your sandwich with any number of sides, including grits, braised greens, or French fries. And, don’t forget W.H. Stiles’ selection of soups – New England Clam Chowder, anyone?! – or daily oysters, from New Jersey, Maine, Canada, and more.
